 I like Shaker furniture. It reminds me of good graphic design – everything that is nonessential is stripped away, leaving simple, strong forms. I based this on a design I saw in the Shaker Workshops’ showroom. They had based their design on similar pieces found in the Enfield, N.H. Shaker community. (I guess we both stole the plans.)
I used a number of figured woods in making this - the cherry top has some streaks of white sapwood showing which add interest; the drawer fronts are from one highly figured piece of cherry.
The drawer bottoms are tiger maple which makes a really nice combination with the darkening cherry.
